New Town Nursery

We are the longest established private nursery in Edinburgh and you can find us at 12 Dean Terrace, Stockbridge.

The nursery is situated in one of the city’s most attractive terraces in an elegant two storey Georgian building.

The nursery has a lovely, secure, rear adventure playground with an area for sand play and planting sessions in the Spring. We are key holders to the beautiful private Dean Gardens, which opens us a wide playground for exploring, studying nature and wider physical development. There are also many walks available nearby such as The Botanical Gardens, Inverleith Park and the River of Leith walkway. All of which we use as often as possible weather permitting.

We are registered with the Care Inspectorate and our management and staff undergo thorough checks with both Disclosure Scotland and Scottish Social Services Council. Our nursery is a member of National Day Nurseries Association Scotland. We are inspected annually by the Care Inspectorate.

Our registration enables us to care for babies from 3 months to children up to 5 years old.  We have five separate playrooms, The Baby Room, Toddler Room, Tweenie Room, Junior Room, Ante/Preschool Room.  All staff hold  relevant childcare qualifications, either HNC, SVQ, OR NNEB or are working towards their qualification. The ratio of staff to children is high, therefore we can ensure a good level of supervision and attention at all times.

Our Ethos

We believe children learn as they play and will learn better if they feel safe and secure in their surroundings. The environment we have created is a happy, relaxed one, which will help towards boosting each child’s self confidence. The activities we offer are exciting and stimulating to ensure the children are never bored. The nursery day is carefully balanced between free play activities, which are times when the children choose what they would like to play with in their room and structured play activities, which are times when small staff led groups participate in specific play i.e. painting, clay modelling, baking, counting games, spaghetti play etc.

We also place a huge emphasis on outdoor play and fresh air. All children go out twice a day at 11.00a.m. and again at 2.00p.m.
